Youth Session at the ICT4Ag conference!

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI) and other key partners is organising the International ICT4Ag conference in Kigali, Rwanda, from 4-8 November 2013.

During the conference, a youth session on "Capacity Development, Youth, and ICTs In Agriculture" will take place on 5th November.

As part of the youth session at the Global Landscapes forum, YPARD (the Young Professionals’ Platform for Agricultural Research for Development) launched an appeal for inspiring people to speak at the conference.

150 applications were received from all over the world, showing the enthusiasm and “drive” from these young people.

Today on International Youth Day 2013 I would like to dedicate this post to all of my peers, the young professionals aspiring to become someone in the ICT4D field. 

In his latest blog, Ken Banks from Kiwanja.net makes a very strong, yet realistic, criticism of the ICT4D field. According to him, over a decade has gone by with very little significant change in the field, and questions that rose in the beginning have not yet been answered:

The training, focused on blogging, will be held in the framework of the upcoming launch of the Second Edition of the Youth in Agriculture Blog Competition (YoBloCo Awards) organized by the ARDYIS project.

The African Innovation Foundation (AIF) announced the call for entries for the 2014 Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA). The prestigious Prize aims at encouraging innovations that contribute to sustainable development in Africa. The winning submission will be awarded a prize of USD 100,000, with two additional USD 25,000, one for the runner up with an innovation with the best business potential and the other one for the runner up with the innovation with the best social impact.

The Google Innovation Awards 2013 (Agriculture Innovation category) went to the Youth Agro Environmental initiative, a Kenyan firm that runs a campaign focused on bringing youth back to agriculture. The winners were announced yesterday at the Connected Kenya Summit in Mombassa.
