1. Problématique

Pour nourrir une population mondiale croissante, qui devrait atteindre 9 milliards en 2050, la production alimentaire devra augmenter d'au moins 70% (FAO, 2013). Augmenter la production alimentaire et prendre en compte le vieillissement de la population agricole exigent l’engagement accru de jeunes dans le secteur agricole. Ceci  est nécessaire, non seulement pour assurer la sécurité alimentaire, mais également pour soutenir le développement économique des pays dépendant fortement de l’agriculture.

Tuesday 17 September 2013, Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC)

The five-day regional training for Pacific island countries and territories, held in Nadi, Fiji from 16 –20 September brought together 23 participants from 12 Pacific states (Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Palau, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu) to learn about the use of social media as a web 2.0 innovation to create and share content for information exchange.

Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), in collaboration with the Caribbean Farmers Network (CAFAN) is organizing a Web 2.0 Training and Exchange Workshop on 27 - 31 July 2013. The training, focused on blogging, will be held in the framework of the upcoming launch of the Second Edition of the Youth in Agriculture Blog Competition (YoBloCo Awards) organized by the ARDYIS project.

The Google Innovation Awards 2013 (Agriculture Innovation category) went to the Youth Agro Environmental initiative, a Kenyan firm that runs a campaign focused on bringing youth back to agriculture. The winners were announced yesterday at the Connected Kenya Summit in Mombassa.
