Malgré leur forte implication dans l’agriculture et leur rôle essentiel en matière de sécurité alimentaire au Bénin, les femmes rurales béninoises font face à une longue série de contraintes. Leurs systèmes de production demeurent traditionnels et archaïques, elles sont très peu intégrées dans les chaînes de valeur et surtout, elles n’ont pas accès à l’information à cause de l’analphabétisme et de leur méconnaissance des TIC. Les femmes rurales béninoises ont soif d’un changement social qualitatif pouvant s’opérer grâce à la contribution des médias, si davantage de visibilité est donnée à leurs activités agricoles.

“No, it’s not easy being an entrepreneur”, answers Rose Funja, director of ICT & Research at University of Bagamoyo. While you might not always pay attention to an academic talking about the world of entrepreneurship, Rose is not your typical scholar. Having studied telecommunications engineering in China and worked in the private sector before embarking on a career in teaching and research, she has recently become an entrepreneur as well and co-founded an innovative business in the exciting field of ICTs for agriculture.

Pest Control Mobile Application, and Much More


Pests – they are good for almost nothing! Well, maybe this is not true in all cases or for everyone. Troy Weekes and Mortimer Seale from Barbados have been inspired by pests to develop a promising agricultural application called CropGuard. As the name suggests, it is an app that provides information that helps defend produce against pests, identified as a key problem in agricultural activities in Barbados.

Farming is in my genes, Blogger I am


I was raised in Kitale, Kenya’s breadbasket where I learned farming at first hand from my parents. I moved to Nairobi City when I was 18 for my studies but I still maintained a strong interest in farming. The experiences of growing up in Kitale inculcated in me a love for farming.

David Opio


As a child growing up in rural Uganda, David Opio experienced at first hand the difficulties faced by smallholder farmers. His mother owned an acre of land but was unable to farm it fully because she lacked the resources she needed to do so. Now David is an ambitious entrepreneur, with a passion for information and communication technologies (ICTs).  He is working to improve the livelihoods of rural farmers in Uganda.

Demandes de contacts, questions et remerciements sont de plus en plus nombreux sur mon blog « Les graines de l’info ». « J'ai lu votre papier sur la transformation de cacao en beurre par Monsieur Antoine. Je suis un Ivoirien, je voudrais faire comme lui. Peut-il me prendre en stage d'une semaine, ou me former à distance ? »,  écrit un internaute dans l’espace de mon blog réservé aux commentaires. Malheureusement pour lui, je n’ai pas retrouvé les coordonnées du producteur de cacao pour les lui transmettre.
