Organization profile:
Mission of Kikandwa Rural Communities Development Organization:
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
(Lao Tzu)
KIRUCODO aims at providing all necessary tools for the sustainable development of rural African communities. The basic strategy is to go beyond ordinary search of donations; instead, the organization contributes to the rapid improvement of human potential. We promote and teach skills that would bring self-sustenance to poor farmers. For example, our organization makes locals familiar with modern agriculture practices through day-to-day applied technologies, active hands-on learning and research. All this is done in order to increase the independence of Kikandwa community and improve its quality of life.
However, our mission also expands to other areas concerning social, economic and educational development. We are additionally focused on promoting human rights, extending accessibility of healthcare, providing support for schools and other sources of education, and, of course, improving and building new clean water points. We strongly believe that the level of development can be significantly raised by a complex approach, covering all or most of the sensible areas. It is not necessary for us to do everything by ourselves; in many cases it is enough to motivate, inform, and assist locals at the initial stage. The eagerness and activity of farmers is what allows us to work in many areas simultaneously and make progress in all of them.
