Using ICT to boost sustainable development is an exceptional initiative. I commend the resilience efforts of NaijaAgronet in educating the people on agricultural development in Africa and beyond especially using the youths as a focal point. In recent time, NaijaAgronet has posted news and article that tends to redirect the youths energy towards Agriculture. Thereby, helping Nigeria to move from a ‘monoculture’ - oil base economy to diversify one and also educating Africans on sustainable development and the mitigation and adaptation measures of climate change.

Nigeria is no doubt endowed with enormous natural resources. Oil has undoubtedly boosted the country's economy. However, there are fears that it will dry up one day. Agriculture is where the next attention will be. Ans with what ICTs have done to economies, agricultural development will be boosted by ICTs. NaijaAgronet is in the fore-front of driving this new frontier; sensitizing the youths on the importance of agriculture. It is a welcome development and a blog that has to be encouraged.

Dear Fo Yaovi,

Thank you for your comments!

The Project acknowledges the farmers as researchers because they have being trying all the innovative approaches and giving feedback to the scientific researchers.

With the awareness of new technologies as informed by NaijaAgroNet, this help to inform the farmers of new technologies which aids in improving productivity; Cultural practices has hindered a lot of growth due to refusal of some farmers to use new innovations, the blog help them to debunk the cultural briefs; currently, the blog helps the government to know that agricultural data base are not reflecting the true statement of what they project.

Over the years researches have always remain in the archives of Nigerian Universities Library without investment and socio-economic impact, today tertiary institution have been greatly challenge to make available evidence base research for up-scaling, thereby placing youths on an employable market to boost development.

In recent years there has been an increasing realization that simply getting those farmers to produce more is not the answer to the problem of increasing rural incomes and enhancing food security.

NaijaAgroNet vectors of change and conveyors of innovations, are currently making information more accessible to producers as a result, they have develop a demand driven, farmer-led agricultural service delivery ICT system targeting the poor subsistence farmers, with emphasis to women, youth and people with disabilities. Enhancing rural livelihoods by increasing agricultural productivity [appropriate farmer training strategies, undertake farmer training to impart skills in best production and post-harvest management practices, access to formal financial instruments] and profitability in a sustainable manner.

Agricultural development could work if driven by direct community participation, environmentally sustainable practices, and supportive public policy.

The project seek to enhance and improve the youths, womenfolk’s and vulnerable groups by providing basis for mobilizing youths, rural women and people with disabilities towards sustainable environmental management and promoting rapid economic growth through good agricultural practices with the use of ICT tools to reach out.
The project components include the following but not limited to; as each phase drives a new concept.
1.Scaling up pathways to intensifying staple food production, improving food quality; human nutrition and increase income from good agricultural practices through constant evidence based updates.
2.Biodiversity conservation and eradication of poverty.
3.Open and distance learning strategy using ICT as a platform – which will offer innovative combinations of flexible teaching methods – a combination of radio programmes, hands-on-skills teaching, web-base interactive tools, printed materials and through farmer field school for youths, people with disability and women.

With good knowledge of the local environment, culture and the language of the target groups, these networks gives rural communities access to information, facilitating communication among them, highlighting their experiences and raising awareness among public opinion and governments about the need for promoting agriculture as a business to attract the youths who are fast learners and agent of change, thereby bridging the gap.
