CTA, in collaboration with NYRC (Zambia), FAFOTRAJ (Malawi) and LULOTE-BMEP (Swaziland), is organising a regional training of trainers on web 2.0 for agri-marketing, in the framework of the Strengthening youth opportunities in agriculture and ICTs in Southern Africa (SOFIA) project, from 25-28 November 2013 in Lilongwe, Malawi.

The main aim of this “Training of trainers” workshop is to train about 20 youths (from youth resource centres and key farmer groups in Malawi, Zambia and Swaziland) on the use of web 2.0 tools for agri-marketing. Following this training, it is expected that these youths will in turn:

  • Conduct continuous training for young people (in particular young farmer groups in the framework of the SOFIA project) on the same applications that will allow them to share information, communicate, raise awareness and market their agricultural produce;
  • Provide institutional strength to the Youth Resource Centres they are coming from, in using the skill obtained from the training to enhance sharing of various resources among the trainers, members of staff and management, disseminate information to young people in the communities, and also market the programs and activities being conducted by their respective organisations.

The training modules are based on CTA Web 2.0 curriculum and has been adapted to focus on the use of web 2.0 for the marketing of agricultural products and activities by young farmer groups. A specific Unit on marketing has been developed for this workshop.

The SOFIA project is implemented by the Ndola Youth Resource Centre (Zambia), the Farmers Forum for Trade and Social Justice (Malawi), LULOTE-BMEP (Swaziland) and managed by the CTA’s ARDYIS project.
