The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), in collaboration with the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), the South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO), the Pacific Islands Private Sector Organisation (PIPSO) and the University of the South Pacific (USP) is hosting the Pacific Community Agritourism Week from 29th June to 3rd July 2015 in Nadi, Fiji to promote opportunities for Pacific Agrifood sector in tourism-related markets.

Le CTA a lancé une enquête qui vise à appréhender l'utilisation actuelle des Technologies de l’Information et de la Communication (TIC) par les jeunes agriculteurs/agro-entrepreneurs d'Afrique, des Caraïbes et du Pacifique (ACP). Les résultats permettront au CTA (et aux organisations intéressées) de mieux affiner leurs stratégies d’appui à la jeunesse impliquée dans l’agriculture.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (
IFAD) is organising a meeting on "ICT use to attract Young to a profitable agriculture" on 25th September 2014 in Rome, Italy.

Background

2014 has been proclaimed as the International Year of Family Farming (IYFF). Family farming includes all family-based agricultural activities, and it is linked to several areas of rural development.

Since the beginning of agriculture, family farming has been contributing significantly to food and nutrition security globally. Indeed, 70% of global food supply comes from more than 500 million family farms, which are supporting rural employment in many countries (FAO, 2014).

The 9 winners of the Youth in Agriculture Blog Competition (YoBloCo Awards) have been announced this evening (17 July 2014)  during the cocktail dinner organised at the International Fin4Ag Conference in Nairobi, Kenya.

Les jeunes des pays ACP sont rarement attirés par l’agriculture. En organisant son premier “hackathon”, le CTA offre aux jeunes diplômés, passionnés de développement informatique, l’occasion d’exprimer leurs talents et de découvrir les possibilités offertes par le secteur agricole.

Background

In 2011, the International Communication Union (ITU) launched the “Girls and ICT Day” to celebrate girls’ interests and strengths in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), and to encourage them to choose a career in this area. Since then, it is being celebrated on the 4th Thursday in April, through different events organised globally. In this context and in the framework of its ARDYIS project, the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), in collaboration with the African Youth Foundation (AYF) is organising an e-debate on Enhancing Young Women engagement in ICT and Agriculture.

Le Centre technique de coopération agricole et rurale ACP-UE (CTA), en collaboration avec l’Association Africaine du Crédit Rural et  Agricole (AFRACA), organise une conférence internationale sur le Financement des chaînes de valeurs agricoles « Fin4Ag » à Nairobi, Kenya du 14 au 18 juillet 2014.

Le Centre technique de coopération agricole et rurale ACP-UE (CTA) organise, avec différents partenaires, une conférence internationale sur les TIC et l'agriculture (ICT4Ag) à Kigali, au Rwanda du 4 au 8 novembre 2013. Cette rencontre s’intéresse à comment les TIC renforcent le secteur agricole et tous les acteurs le long de la chaîne de valeur. Elle débattra des possibilités prometteuses et des développements remarquables observés dans ce domaine.  Environ 400 délégués, venant des secteurs public et privé et de la société civile y prendront part: agriculteurs, organisations communautaires, praticiens du développement agricole, universitaires, entrepreneurs, développeurs, opérateurs télécoms,  espaces d’innovation TIC (tech hubs), décideurs, etc.

The African Innovation Foundation (AIF) announced the call for entries for the 2014 Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA). The prestigious Prize aims at encouraging innovations that contribute to sustainable development in Africa. The winning submission will be awarded a prize of USD 100,000, with two additional USD 25,000, one for the runner up with an innovation with the best business potential and the other one for the runner up with the innovation with the best social impact.
