How can we strengthen e-agriculture strategies and policies (holistic ICT strategies and policies dedicated to the agriculture sector) in ACP* countries?

The Technical Center for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO),  is organizing an e-Agriculture forum to start this important discussion.

Involving youth in agricultural development and decision making processes is key to ensuring sustainable development in Africa, and framing this within the context of ICTs and entrepreneurship provides a valuable dimension to the discourse of agricultural modernization and prosperity. Her Excellency Rhoda Peace Tumusiime, Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture of African Union Commission, said this while officiating at a workshop held in Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia, 29 March 2012, on youth, ICT and entrepreneurship in agriculture, organised by Technical Centre for Agriculture and Rural Co-operation (CTA) and NEPAD E-Africa Programme.

In the framework of the prize giving ceremony of the CTA - NEPAD youth Essay competition on ICT and entrepreneurship in agriculture, which took place in Addis Ababa on 28 March 2012, ARDYIS Project produced a brochure to present the winners and their essays.

It is with great pleasure that the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Agency and the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) announce the winners of the Photo and Essay competitions that have been organized to celebrate NEPAD’s 10th Anniversary. This competition also falls in the framework of CTA activities on youth, women and ICTs.

A few days before the meeting of Agriculture Ministers of the G20 countries, ONE * has organized a meeting between some journalists and Dr. Ibrahim Assane Mayaki, Executive Secretary of the Agency of NEPAD and former Prime Minister of Niger, which analyzes here, the future of the continent. The New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Agency and the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) have joined forces in celebrating NEPAD’s 10th Anniversary. It is within this context of reflecting over the advancement of  the African development agenda, that the two institutions are jointly organising an essay competition under the theme; “Looking at ICTs and entrepreneurship in agriculture and rural development through the eyes of women and the youth”.

The finals (oral presentations) of the CTA ARDYIS Essay Contest as well as the prize giving ceremony will be held during the CTA Week 2010 events in Pretoria, South Africa.
