The Web2.0 and Social Media big bang

Since CTA held its first Web2.0 training event in Nairobi, Kenya in 2009, demand has simply exploded. Between 2009 and 2012, 1,684 people from around the ACP regions were trained. In 2012 alone, 695 people from 32 countries took part in 31 learning events, branded as “Web 2.0 and Social Media Learning Opportunities”, two of which were offered online through a partnership with UNITAR and FAO. This represents a 509% increase in participation on 2009!

On the occasion of the 2012 Conference of the African Chapter of the International Association of Agricultural Information Specialists (IAALD) the ARDYIS project organized a series of activities, which took place from 20 to 23 May in Johannesburg, South Africa.

On the last day of the IAALD conference, the second meeting of the ARDYIS Advisory Committee has also taken place. The meeting, celebrating the second anniversary of the ARDYIS project, was held to review the past activities of the project and discussing the perspectives for the future.

Nawsheen Hosenally, 1st prize of the YoBloCo Awards, individual category

Premier prix des « YoBloCo Awards », la jeune blogueuse plaide pour que la jeunesse se réconcilie avec l’agriculture.

«C’est un grand honneur pour moi d’avoir été choisie  parmi les 69 participants au concours individuel. » C’est à Johannesburg que Nawsheen Hosenally a récupéré son prix le mois dernier. Le Youth in Agriculture Blog Competition (YoBloCo), organisé par le Centre Technique de coopération agricole et rurale (CTA), récompense les meilleurs blogs traitant de l’engagement des jeunes dans l’agriculture. Oeuvrant dans le cadre des accords de Cotonou entre pays de l’ACP (Afrique-Caraïbes-Pacifi que) et de l’Union européenne, le CTA met un accent particulier sur l’utilisation des technologies de l’information et de la communication pour relever les défis agricoles contemporains.

CTA NEPAD Essay and Photo Contest winnersIt is with great pleasure that the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Agency and the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) announce the winners of the Photo and Essay competitions that have been organized to celebrate NEPAD’s 10th Anniversary. This competition also falls in the framework of CTA activities on youth, women and ICTs.
