Venue: Tanoa International Hotel, Nadi, Fiji

Date: 16 – 20 September, 2013 (08:30 – 17:00)

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) is organizing a Web 2.0 Training and Exchange Workshop on 16-20 September 2013. The training, focused on blogging, will be held in the framework of the upcoming launch of the Second Edition of the Youth in Agriculture Blog Competition (YoBloCo Awards) organized by the ARDYIS project.

The training complements the Pacific Youth in Agriculture strategy which was launched at the Fourth Regional Meeting of Heads of Agriculture and Forestry Services (HOAFS) in 2010. The ultimate goal would be to increase the participation of youth in agriculture as a means of improving food security, youth livelihoods and employment in Pacific Island countries and territories (PICTs).

During past competitions organised by the ARDYIS project, low participation has been noted from some ACP regions including the
Pacific. The workshop is thus organized as a response to this observation and following recommendations from youths, in order to encourage participation from these regions.

The workshop is organized in partnership with the Web2ForDev project of CTA. It falls in CTA’s mandate to facilitate access to and dissemination of information in the fields of agriculture and rural development in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP). It will last 5 days and includes exchange sessions on the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in agriculture which will take place the last day. Participants will get hands-on experience on blogging for agriculture and rural development, during intensive practical sessions. Participants will also learn how to use ICTs to assist in collecting further examples of successful case studies of youth and agriculture activities with good potential for replication.

Target Participants

The event is open to nationals of the ACP Pacific countries (Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu).

It targets students in agricultural or ICT training courses, young farmers, young farmers’ organizations, young members of farmers’ organizations and other young people or youth organizations interested in ICT or agriculture.  20 youths will be selected to attend it.
