The Awards recognise excellence across a number of categories centred on the attraction, retention and progression of women’s and African talents to further the African development agenda.
In line with these objectives, CTA and the NEPAD Agency are searching for enthusiastic photographers of African nationality, who want to demonstrate their abilities by examining the issues of Africa’s development in the areas of:
- Information Communication Technologies (ICTs);
- Agriculture and Food Security and;
- Climate Change
The winning photographs will be on display at a NEPAD’s 10th Anniversary meeting to be held in October 2011 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The winners of each category will be awarded at the opening ceremony of that meeting.
The photo contest is open to amateur and professional photographers of at least 18 years who are nationals of African countries. CTA and NEPAD staff and their immediate family members are excluded from the contest.
We are looking for compelling photographs that will capture the story of Africa’s development in the following 2 categories:
Category 01 – Youth/women, ICTs and entrepreneurship
Photos that depict youth or women making use of information communication technologies (ICTs) in entrepreneurial contexts in the agricultural sector.
Category 02 – Youth/Women and climate change
Photos in Africa that depict youth or women making use of Information communication technologies (ICTs) in the context of climate change adaptation / mitigation and risk management.
Guidelines for submission, selection and awarding procedures
You may submit your photographs and descriptive data the latest on 31 August, 2011 (Deadline extended to 25 September 2011 for North Africa) using this e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . You may submit up to 3 photos per category. Your submissions must not infringe on the rights of any other photographer or person.
Submissions must consist in original files of camera-made digital photographs three (3) megapixels or larger in JPEG, JPG or TIFF formats.
Submissions of photographs should be accompanied by this form duly completed.
Your entry to the Contest constitutes your agreement to allow CTA and the NEPAD Agency to make your photograph(s), name, occupation and country of residence, public in the case of being a winner of one or more of the awards. In addition, it constitutes your agreement to allow CTA and the NEPAD Agency to use your submitted photographs in the production and publication of media including the conduct of promotional activities. You will retain ownership and all other rights to future use of your photographs.
Submitted images will be judged by a jury on relevance to the category, technical excellence, composition, overall impact, and artistic merit.
For each African Region (Central Africa, East Africa, North Africa, Southern Africa, West Africa) the best photo of each category will receive a prize of EUR 800.
The winners will be informed latest by mid-September 2011 and will be invited to attend the NEPAD 10th Anniversary Photo-Contest award ceremony in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. CTA and the NEPAD Agency shall have the right to verify, in their sole judgment, winner eligibility.
