Survey on young farmers and young agricultural entrepreneurs in the ACPWritten by ardyis-projectCTA has launched an online survey to have baseline information on the current uses, challenges and opportunities of ICTs for young farmers/young agro-entrepreneurs in African, Caribbean and Pacific countries (ACP). The survey is also part of a CTA contribution to a forthcoming report of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and partners on youth in agriculture in Africa.

Family farming includes all family-based agricultural activities, and it is linked to several areas of rural development. Since the beginning of agriculture, family farming has been contributing significantly to food and nutrition security globally. Indeed, 70% of global food supply comes from more than 500 million family farms, which are supporting rural employment in many countries (FAO, 2014).

Winners of the YoBloCo Awards announced at the Fin4Ag Conference!Written by ardyis-projectThe 9 winners of the Youth in Agriculture Blog Competition (YoBloCo Awards) have been announced this evening (17 July 2014) during the cocktail dinner organised at the International Fin4Ag Conference in Nairobi, Kenya. Young people in ACP countries are seldom attracted into agriculture. In organising its first ‘hackathon’, CTA offered young graduate computer programming development enthusiasts an opportunity to flaunt their talents and discover potential openings in the agricultural sector.

e-Debate: Enhancing Young Women’s engagement in ICT and AgricultureWritten by ardyis-projectBackgroundIn 2011, the International Communication Union (ITU) launched the “Girls and ICT Day” to celebrate girls’ interests and strengths in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), and to encourage them to choose a career in this area. Since then, it is being celebrated on the 4th Thursday in April, through different events organised globally. In this context and in the framework of its ARDYIS project, the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), in collaboration with the African Youth Foundation (AYF) is organising an e-debate on Enhancing Young Women engagement in ICT and Agriculture.

Be part of the social reporting team of the ICT4Ag Conference and improve your skills!Written by ardyis-projectThe Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) is organising its ICT for Agriculture (ICT4Ag) conference in Kigali, Rwanda from 4-8 November 2013. This conference will examine ways that ICTs are truly empowering producers and consumers along entire value chains. It will showcase the exciting possibilities and incredible developments taking place in this area. The conference will have an international focus and will attract a broad range of stakeholders. About 400 delegates are expected to attend the event: farmers and community organizations, development practitioners and academia, entrepreneurs, developers, telecom operators, technology hubs, information specialists, policy makers, researchers, etc.

Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA) Announces 2014 Call for Entries!Written by ardyis-projectThe African Innovation Foundation (AIF) announced the call for entries for the 2014 Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA). The prestigious Prize aims at encouraging innovations that contribute to sustainable development in Africa. The winning submission will be awarded a prize of USD 100,000, with two additional USD 25,000, one for the runner up with an innovation with the best business potential and the other one for the runner up with the innovation with the best social impact.
